New Build SY Vertigo launched in Auckland

It was an exciting day for Alloy Yachts in Auckland yesterday as their latest build eased effortlessly into the water in front of a large crowd of supporters. AY41, now named Vertigo, is the largest sailing yacht produced in their yard to date. Launched at the yard in Henderson, West Auckland, they had to wait for a king tide to send this one down the slipway.

After a speech by the owner’s representative Andrew Senn, in which he thanked the yard for their skill, craftsmanship and hard work, the boat was blessed by Tanya Zdebliak, the champagne bottle was smashed with ease, and 775 tonne Vertigo rolled down the ramp. This 220’ ketch, designed by Briand as a performance sailing yacht capable of world cruising, employed French designer Christian Liaigre for the interior with a brief for the yacht to feel “Urban at Sea”.

SY Vertigo will now be moored in the new marina in Westhaven. She is scheduled to have a 10 week commissioning period headed by Alloy Yachts before hand over to the owner and crew. The yacht will then head to the Pacific for extensive cruising before returning to New Zealand, hopefully in time for the Rugby World Cup!

Integrated Marine Group are proud to continue a great on-going relationship with many fine yachts that have been superbly crafted in the Alloy Yachts stables. Our Yacht Support department has been involved not only with Vertigo, but also Imagine II, for whom they organised an exceptional launch party, and prior to that Kokomo.
